Week 5

Ideas in Antiquity

September 15th, 2015- Tuesday (12pm)

Being an American senator: My main concern as being a senator, would be those out placed; i.e. homeless, refugees/immigrants. This topic effects all kinds of people all over the globe, my attention wouldn’t be too divided. I would want to establish a major outreach program initiative for the United States; once this program has been successful I would outsource my services to those countries that desperately need it. I wouldn’t have any favoritism to my home state, simply because I know it effects more people outside of the state I grew up in (Loudon County). No, senator should have favoritism towards their home state, yes you should represent it well and exhibit that charm in front of others.

September 16th, 2015- Wednesday (1pm)

Teacher relationships: After rereading the Life of Alcibiades and examining his relationships with his superiors, it seems very realistic compared to some of the other stories. I don’t think he has gone that far to punching, but the mouthing off is believable. I think the only reason why Alcibiades had such a great relationship with Socrates, is because Socrates saw right through the façade and called him out for what he really was; Alcibiades liked this, because unlike the others Socrates wasn’t trying to suck up and get on his good side. Alcibiades was in a way craving that type of attention, or just truly needed it.

A leader today: A leader in today’s society is supposed to act knowledgeable and approachable. Yes, all leaders have there parties and must voice their opinions and convince/persuade others to believe in their ideals. I don’t feel like party leaders are behaving this way, most are pointing the finger at one another and delving into their personal/ family relationships instead of focusing on the political issues and solutions the candidates are passionate about. Most leaders in the US, are too busy focusing on their opponents shortcomings, instead of the needs of most American people.
