Old Swiss House

“Eat Pray Love” is a ubiquitous travel motto these days. My husband and I, who fall under the (sloppy) tourist category, according to the whole travellers v/s tourist debate, never shy away from experiencing the most exciting local cuisines when on vacation.

Day 3 of Swiss trip (my blog on Swiss trip to follow next, watch the space) : After an interesting boat excursion to Lake Lucerne, while we were strolling around the alluring city of lights, imbibing the beauty of picturesque landscapes and scenic mountains, trying to get hold of other tourists/locals to get a perfect vacation shot for our next Facebook profile picture, we stumbled upon an antique looking cottage, which first struck to me as a museum.

On “googling” Old Swiss House we realised that it was a Michelin restaurant ranked 8 of 312 in Lucerne by trip advisor. Well we were in for some Swiss treat.

As we made our way through medieval style wooden door of the restaurant, the smell of Swiss cheese, fresh herbs and pure butter made our mouths water. In order to dine at this fine place you need to make a reservation, but it was one of those lucky days for us that we could get a table for two.

The 147 year old restaurant boasts a collection of wonderful antiques and has entertained some of the world’s most famous VIPs: Richard Nixon, Charles Ritz, Neil A. Armstrong, Roger Fedrer to name a few

Old Swiss house — Wall of Fame

The heart of the house is their well-organised wine cellar, which stocks over 30,000 bottles of fine wines from around the world.

Now that the majestic atmosphere is set, shall we order? You cannot give the sumptuous wienerschnitzel a miss. It is the house speciality and has been served for more than fifty years. The fascinating part about the dish is that it is prepared right in front of you at your table.

Veal dipped in blend of beaten egg, Swiss cheese and herbs coated in breadcrumbs
Cooked in pure butter served with half a lemon and fresh egg noodles
Vegetarian’s delight — Summer on my plate

We ended this gala meal with the house special Swiss ice cream coated in chocolate sauce.

Visit to this place was an excellent experience to end an ideal vacation.(A step closer to being a traveller — eat pray love)
