It has been established that natural calamities like drought, floods etc. are due to excess of CO2 and accumulation of Water Vapour in the atmosphere. How to control these?
If you can’t find a solution in the Laboratory turn to nature and traditional wisdom. In the past before our houses in India Sisal Agave and Opuntia(Cactus) Plants were hung at the entrance. The religious explanation was to avoid DRISHTI(Evil eyes curse). There is more than religious belief in this. Both are CAM Plants.Crassulacean acid metabolism, also known as CAM photosynthesis, is a carbon fixation pathway that evolved in some plants as an adaptation to arid conditions. In a plant using full CAM, the stomata in the leaves remain shut during the day to reduce evapotranspiration, but open at night to collect carbon dioxide (CO2).
Both Sisal Agave and Opuntia are care-free Growth, regenerative plants. Biofuel/ Biogaspower/Biochar can be obtained from these. There are Multiple Uses too:
Agave Fibre for Cloths weaving(DIP DRY IN PHILIPPINES),Hecogenin a Steriod from the juice, cellulose for paper making etc. The Opuntia Fruit and juice are nutritious and have medicinal value. The Opuntia pads are put in water logged areas in Kenya to control Mosquito Breeding.
Both Agave and Opuntia can be grown on a massive scale in vast waste lands in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Since the Opuntia yields many nutritious fruits and hence the juice,these can be supplied to African School Children to fight Malnutrition. I suggest Global Funding Agencies like The World Bank,FAO,UNDEP and Private Foundations Promote these plants in Developing Counties.
I have undertaken a Nationwide campaign on Cultivation of CAM Plants Opuntia and Agave which act as “Carbon Sink” being CAM Plants.
