Today, we want to introduce you to one of the most beautiful gardens in Iran that attracts many foreign tourists every year. Ghavam House is one of the masterpieces of Iranian architecture located in Shiraz.

About Qavam house

Qavam house actually is called the orange garden because of its tall orange trees with beautiful blossoms in spring that their smell will drive you crazy and it’s not the whole story. if you want to know the complete name of this Shirazi garden, it is Qavam orange garden. But way Qavam house?

The story goes back to 140 years ago, when Ali Mohammad Khan Qavam, one of those great men in Qajar dynasty, ordered to build this orange garden. And well that is clear that he would probably put his name on this garden to everybody know that it is his mansion. So that’s why this orange garden in called Qavam house.

Qavam house history

As we stated above, Qavam house had built for more than a century ago in Qajar dynasty and the rule of Nasser al-din Shah, and its building took 10 years and in fact, it was a place to hold meetings of Qajar elders, the house of Justice and the place of the people reference and now is one of the most attractive places in Shiraz as iran tourism attraction that you can visit.

Qavam house architecture

Qavam house has many spectacular views, and its unique architecture is one reason that attracts everyone’s attention at the very first glance, an impressive architecture of mirror-work elements, tiling, carvings and stucco that till today, it is one of the masterpieces of iranian architecture.

Qavam house design has been based on the principle of symmetry. It means that the porch or the mirror hall of Qavam houseis in the middle and the rooms are aligned to the right and left of it.

On the walls of the porch, there are beautiful stucco molding, which is a real example of the art of the Qajar era. Also, the entire floor of the hall is decorated with white and blue tiles and added to it beautifully. Seeing all this detail carefully, really takes more than one hour to make sure you put enough time for visiting Qavam house in your iran tours itinerary.

About ceiling of Qavam house, we should say that in the side rooms of the mirror hall, the ceilings are made of wood but it isn’t simple wood and is completely carved. But after entering the main room adjacent to the porch, you will be faced with a beautiful mirror ceiling that can keep you busy for hours.

Inside the Qavam house

By entering from the southern part of the Qavam house and passing a traditional and decorative store that sells iraniansouvenirs, we encounter a very beautiful and sympathetic area of orange and palm trees, which leads us to the very large, colorful and mirrored main building.

With passing through this area, we reach the main building of Qavam house and its magnificent porch that is on the left of the cafe. There are several stairs on both sides of the porch that are very beautiful and artistically designed to enter the building.

There are small rooms around and behind the porch of the Qavam house that will be dipped us into the sea of mosaic art and mirrors. In these rooms, you can see the old and historical furniture belong to the same period of time.

Throughout the main room and porch of Qavam house, is covered by the unique mirror work of that period, and attention to all details of this work needs days and even weeks. The main hall, known as the Mirror Hall or the Shah Neshin Hall, is connected through a wooden crescent window with sash valleys to the central porch in Qavam house. The walls of this hall are all mirrored too.

In Qavam house the central porch with two large stone pillars used to hold various ceremonies has a long, integrated ceiling decorated with mirroring and beautiful paintings. The presence of large mirrors on the walls of the courtyard and porch reflects the spectacular views of the garden, dock, and waterfront.

On the front of the porch, the beautiful podium with its expanse brings us to the glory of Qavam house in its time. In the basement of this building, there is a museum of antique objects consisting of a beautiful collection of dishes, coins, signs, tiles from various historical periods of Iran.
