After the individual research, we made a group to build an interactive object, and the individual object of our team members are:

  • Anya: Placebo Button
  • Iona: Wi-Fi
  • Archie: Vinyl Records
  • Joane: Emoji
  • Mich: Apple Pay

So we extracted a commonality from our research: Trust, it means users have to trust these technologies before they use them, however, they may steal your information or do not work at all. Then we designed a Halloween prank machine which leads users to take fake coupons.

The most usual way of businessmen to attract customers is to show you something looks interesting and give you some benefits, so we just made this prank looks like a real sale activity on Halloween day, it quite simple, just enter your name and push the button to print the coupons. However, users will get an electric shock and be photographed at the shocking moment.

I used lots of Halloween elements, and combine with a little bit glitch art like this to hint users “ hey, this booth has a little problem, just be careful”, and we also designed some coupons which have real people’s names on it and printed it, put them on the printer to make this looks more reality.

The problem was how to make an electric shock sensor. We can hack it by an autofocus camera or just use some electric prank toys and connect them by Arduino on a board together. But for the safety problem, technicians rejected us several times. They suggest us another way: Tens of muscle stimulator.

We had done it on Halloween day and build a booth in school, test for about 30 minutes. However, it was not meet our expectation completely, different users have different sensitivity with electric, so some users feel nothing when they push our button. Besides, we didn't catch the shocking moment due to the hardware deficiencies, the camera delayed for about 1 second.

But in general, it is a nice experience, we support each other very well, and used new skills which learned from school.
