Many years ago, I visited my maternal aunt at her residence in Mumbai. She was a beautiful soul who was in her late 70s and stayed with her husband in their cozy little apartment. During that visit, she was keen on showing me some old photos of my mother and her from her carefully-preserved family album. There was only one problem though. My dear aunt had misplaced her glasses and without them our trip down memory lane was bound to be a disaster. We launched ourselves into the mission of locating her glasses and I remember that it was my uncle (her beloved husband) that ultimately found out where her spectacles were. That led me to see how important the presence of my uncle was in her life. My aunt who was just a shadow of the organized, capable, orderly and efficient woman she used to be, thanks to age catching up with her, would have had a very tough time managing herself. Uncle who was still strong and able, was quick to tend to her needs. He helped her around the house with daily chores and constantly took up cooking because her eyes would hurt from the heat while cooking. He was her saving grace. But what if uncle wasn’t there to help her?

That led me to think, “ what are some of the warning signs that an elderly patient or a senior citizen shows that would qualify them as someone who needs in house elder care services ?

  1. Absent-mindedness: They tend to forget where they kept their keys or sometimes forget to take their medication. Some of them tend to miss group activities that they previously attended and even scheduled doctor’s appointments. Other times they may forget where they have kept important personal documents.

2. Irritability or resentment: Anger is one of the predominant signs of the aging process. It can also be a symptom of depression. In other cases, the elderly may feel very vulnerable that they are helpless and this is an emotion that they are forced to wear in order to mask their helplessness. One of the other causes of anger in older people can be because of poor health.

3.Other symptoms to watch out for

4. Some other telltale signs are:
