As per all natural disasters, they come bringing chaos into the table. Nothing remains unscathed in the face of the flood as it terrorizes all it can come across. It can ravage through your home, your farm and whatever you possess if you were not ready for it. With all the debris, trees, and someone’s car, anything can come by to sweep you away from safety.

Flood’s are caused by numerous amount of things:

  • Heavy rain
  • Broken/misplaced dams
  • Low-lying ground
  • …and many more

As long as the requirements are met to amass huge amounts of water to keep it overflowing, a flood will happen and it will destroy most of what you own, and it is hard to recover those that are damaged or worse, gone beyond recovery.

Australia was hit by Cyclone Debbie during the first quarter of 2017, the scale was disastrous with many casualties. Homes being damaged and properties are beyond repair.

During floods, it is advisable that everyone gets to higher level to ensure safety from being swept away by the surging current that often brings hazardous items along the way. It is usually contaminated by whatever lies in the sewage that is then brought up by the over-abundance of water which is brought into knee deep levels.

When evacuating, NEVER evacuate once the flood is already present unless the authority states that it is safe for now and they need to relocate immediately. Refrain from using cars as a flood 2 feet above the ground can immobilize your vehicle and causing you to be trapped within a metal contraption.

When evacuating, always turn on the radio. Vantage points will be given by the authorities and will avoid lower-lying ground to prevent civilians getting stuck in a flash flood. Don’t drive if you need to. As being trapped in a metal box only spells death to those unfortunate. Instead, proceed with just walking if the flood current is not dangerous enough.

Flash floods are the ones to fear as they amass huge volumes of water within minutes. When a flash flood is imminent and you think you don’t have the time to relocate, unplug any and all electrical appliances and secure yourselves to safety on higher ground. If you live in a 2 story house, go to the elevated ground. If you only have one floor, proceed with the rooftop instead.

Never swim in flood water. There are too many risks to take if you decide to dive down a flood water just to grab something you have dropped. Best you leave it until the flood has been swept away by the current rather than facing multiple sickness that you caught during your venture to grab your phone that you dropped.

If you have a family or with one, always have a contact that is already and a meet up point in case of separation. NEVER go after a victim that is swept by the current, instead proceed with throwing a floatable object to aid them instead.

A flood will leave your house damaged so it is advisable to call for a flood cleaning services after the flood has left. Most of your belongings will be gone or damaged and you will have to resort to purchasing new ones instead.

It is paramount that after a flood, a sewage cleanup crew is to be called upon to check potential clogs. As the flood stream gushes most of the items away, it is highly likely that the flood swept something up in the drainage system.
