Brandon, I was curious to see if anyone else thought the Zimbardo experiment was ethical! I felt the experiment was very fair.
Your point about discipline is interesting. As children, my siblings and I all got timeouts, Tabasco sauce on the tongue when we talked back or swore, and were spanked with a belt. This was normal for my family, but I have friends who were never grounded or punished for anything besides a quick ‘talking to.’ I never once felt abused as a kiddo. With corporal punishment removed from educational institutions, I think that might have shed negative light on punishment as a whole, so families phased it out. That would be a fascinating study.
