Waist Training: Does it Work?
When thinking of waist training what do you think of?

For me, this gif shows how I picture the whole waist training process and just how unnecessary it seems.
Waist training is a trend that is very common in today’s society, wearing a corset or even some sort of a wrap to slim down your waist. Now wearing a corset has been around since the 1800's but came back into the spotlight in 2014 and was called ‘waist training’ and becoming more popular. Waist training is another way to supposedly lose weight and get the famous “hourglass” figure without really having to do any serious workouts or any physical work at all. Although some women and men wear these corset/wraps to the gym or just wear them to do a simple workout because it may help them sweat more or even shed a few more pounds. The process of waist training can be very risky and harmful to a persons body, yet people still do it. So if you had the chance to shed a few pounds, get a slim waist and putting your body at a serious health risk by waist training, would you do it?
On Dr. Oz’s website, Dr. Nicole Florence, MD, has an article about waist training. Along with the article there is a video of a segment that Dr. Oz did on waist training. “As a corset squeezes a woman’s outsides, it is also squeezing the insides. This pressure on the internal organs is a serious health concern.” (Dr. Nicole Florence, MD). In the segment that Dr. Oz did about waist training on his show, he interviewed three women who participate in the waist training trend. One of the women, Jasmine, explains in the video that she waist trains throughout her day, helping her sweat in her workouts. While another woman said it helps her posture and she feels she is able to breath better while waist training. All of the women were unaware of what the corset what doing to their bodies.

The main reason waist training has become so well known and popular is due to the fact that several celebrities participate in this trend. A few celebrities who waist train, Kim Zociak, Snooki (Nicole Polizzi), JWoww (Jenni Farley), Jessica Alba, Amber Rose, and of course the Kardashian Sisters. For the most part these ladies promote waist training through their social media sites, mainly Instagram, to get their point across that waist training works, for them.

Now while some think that waist training is a good way to lose weight or to even help women or men get a slimmer figure, waist training reshapes your body but does your body keep the desired shape? While a person waist trains they are “training” their body to keep a certain shape that can go back to the original figure over time. When one decides to waist train to have the good look on the outside but what happens to the inside? Their organs are starting to be squeezed together which can cause a lot of harm to the body and can put a lot of pressure on the lungs not allowing them to fully expand causing one to not breath appropriately. So if you had the chance to shed a few pounds, get a slim waist and putting your body at a serious health risk by waist training, would you do it?
