Designing for both Android and iOS separetely is definitely better because of native experience, but in case you want to introduce some new UI elements, microinteractions, time to get out of platform defaults box. Creating the same interface for everything brings a feel of unity, so replicating web experience (getting close to it not just copying) is not a bad thing.
