Are you looking to generate more water damage restoration leads?

Here are some simple water damage marketing tactics you can use to generate more leads:

1. Reach out to Plumbers and Other Businesses

Plumbers are around water damage all the time, so it’s important to be top of mind when they are looking for a company to refer. An easy way to reach out to plumbers in your service area is by sending them cold emails. In those emails you should introduce yourself and mention that you are willing to offer a referral fee if they can refer you on jobs.

Keep in mind that you should keep these rates competitive, so that other restoration companies do not come in and offer more than you. A good rule of thumb is about 10% of the revenue from each referred job.

Network with Insurance Adjusters, Property Managers, Other Contractors, and More

Plumbers are not the only professionals that can refer you on jobs. We recommend networking with local property managers, cleaning professionals, and more to have a larger chance of getting referred.

2. Join Facebook Groups

You can join restoration Facebook groups like “Powered By Urgency” to team up with local restorers in your area. If you are a small company, this can be a great way to get access to the equipment and labor owned by larger companies. If you are a larger company, this can be an excellent opportunity to rent out your equipment and get on more jobs.

3. Craigslist

Craigslist is a search engine just like Google, so we recommend putting keywords in your ad. You can do this by simply exporting a keyword list from the Google Keyword Planner, and putting the important ones in your ad. Then all you need to do next to repost your ad every 2–8 days, and you should be able to generate some leads from Craigslist.

4. Hire a Pay Per Call Water Damage Lead Generation Company

Pay per call marketing and advertising is great because you only have to pay the person or company you hire if they generate you valid calls. We recommend using our service for this (of course), and there are a couple of other good companies out there that also work on this pricing model.

5. Run Google and Bing Ads

PPC is a great way to generate more water damage leads, but it takes expertise to run it properly. While you may be tempted to simply use Google Ads Express and bypass the learning curve, we would urge you not to do that because your ads will likely not be run very efficiently. Hiring a PPC expert is a much better way to go in our opinion.

Note: Assuming the lead generation companies you hire are also running PPC ads, you will probably be competing with yourself by running your own ads. That being said, chances are that major lead generation companies are already running ads in your area anyway.

6. Invest in SEO

We are surprised when we see restoration companies spending $20k+ per month on Google Ads and lead generation fees, while neglecting to invest in their SEO. Similar to PPC, Implementing SEO properly takes some expertise. While extensive SEO work done by a reputable company might be out of the budget of some companies, some basic optimizations should only cost you a few thousand dollars. In most cases, these basic SEO changes should be enough to generate you some organic leads without paying for ads!

7. Offer Related Services

Instead of outreaching to plumbers, some restoration companies are taking it upon themselves to provide plumbing services themselves, so they can have closer proximity to more water damage situations. If you have the resources, adding plumbing services could also be a great way to diversify your businesses and add an additional revenue stream.

8. Storm Chase

If your area has been slow for awhile, and you see disasters happening in other areas, then go out and chase them!

9. Reputation Management

There are a lot of people who check online reviews before hiring a contractor, so you want to make sure your reviews are good and that you have a decent amount of them.

Get More Reviews

If you currently have only a few reviews and one of them is negative, that gives you a bad aggregate. This doesn’t look good to your potential customers, so you should consider trying to get more reviews. While it is technically against the policy of most major review platforms to ask for reviews, you can make it as simple as possible for people to leave you a review. One easy way to do this is by putting a review link on your business cards and anything else people might regularly see. That way they know where to go to write you a review, and they get reminded to do it.

Flag Bogus Reviews

Keep in mind that your competitors may try to leave you a bogus bad review. The good news is that most review platforms allow you to report reviews that don’t meet their guidelines. Here is more information on how to report a review on Yelp’s website.

10. Yelp Ads

Yelp Ads can be a good source of leads, but there are some downsides to them also. Unlike Google Ads, you don’t currently have full control over the keywords your company shows up for. This could cause your ads to get clicked on for irrelevant keywords, which will cost you unnecessary ad spend. That being said, Yelp Ads still might be worth trying if you have good reviews and a filled out profile.

11. Yelp SEO

Just like Google or Craigslist, Yelp is a search engine that you can do SEO for. In addition, doing Yelp SEO also makes it more likely that your Yelp page will show up on other search engines like Google and Bing.

Here are some simple Yelp SEO tips:

- Try to put your main keywords in the business name (if possible)

- Get more reviews

- Try to answer any estimate requests quickly so you can maintain a high average response time. This can help your companies click through rate (CTR) in the search results, which will probably help your rankings also.

- Fill out your specialties section and include your keywords in their a few times.

12. Get on the Insurance Vendor Lists

Many insurance companies will have a database of contractors that you can get on by applying.

Conclusion

The water damage industry can be very profitable, but it’s important to have a steady stream of leads coming in. We suggest putting some of these methods into practice to get more water damage leads for your business.
