This is exactly what I was thinking, so glad you named it! I think the origins of the profession (as “women’s work” or child-rearing as the “feminine domain”) has broad impacts on the enculturation and the enforcement of the culture of humility you are describing. That culture is perhaps a necessary element for the learning environments that teachers often create, but if we aren’t careful we can make the mistake of demeaning and ignoring teachers (to our own peril) when we fail to expect them to participate in elevated discourses as adults, professionals, and yes: experts.
