Democracy isn’t the best form of government. But it’s the least dangerous form of government. A true democracy has various centres of power and a system of check-and-balances which ensures that one side doesn’t get too powerful and do as it pleases. Other forms of government are woefully lacking in it. Then a true democracy needs a fiercely independent media. India doesn’t have it. Our media usually has flushed all ethics down the toilets. And most importantly, it is somewhat subject to social pressure. Also, something like Great Leap forward couldn’t have happened in a true democracy.

In the end, any government is coercive. And thus, we should always have a goal of minimum government interference.
