The true US victory
Yes, USA is criticized. Yes, USA is challenged. Yes, USA loses wars. Yes, USA is not always victorious in every war. But we have to realise that this is not where USA wins truly.
The true US victory lies in the fact that we have built different expectations for USA, even being in a country which has not always been on the best of terms with it.
What different expectations you ask? Well, answer the following questions.
A country invades another country on flimsy ground. It does not gets any sanction. Which country is it?
A country engages in coup d’etat of democratic leader. It is not even reprimanded but instead calls itself the ‘arsenal of democracy’ and ‘champion of freedom’ unironically. And does it again. And again. Which country is it?
A country supports another country involved in genocide. And still not get criticized by the entire world for its support. Which country is it?
A country creates the very forces it tries to save the world from later. But is not called out on international stage for its creation. But instead calls itself at the front stage of ‘war on terror’ which is necessitated because of its support and nourishment of the terror. Which country is it?
But God forbid any other country tries to support murderous regimes or secure its interest. You can be sure that this great warrior of humanity will be the first one condemning others for not behaving in USA-approved manner or *gasp* have conflicting interests. It will then call on countries in its sphere of influence to help impose sanctions or provide man-power to invade.
And we are conditioned to cheer for USA when it slays its enemies or ignore its actions when it supports some of its dubious or unscrupulous friends. We feel how wrong Russian invasion of Ukraine is and how wrong China’s support of North Korea is but do we think of USA’s invasion of Iraq or its support of Saudi Arabia in the same way?
