Amazon Prime Launches Movie Rental Services In India
Amazon Prime Video is venturing into movie rentals in India with a new offering called Prime Video Store. Although Amazon’s video streaming service is accessible only for Prime members, the rental service will be available to customers who are not Prime members as well. This service is now available on the Amazon Prime Video app and website.
Currently, the price of movie rental service is starting from Rs 99 to Rs 499 across various genres including action, adventure, science fiction, horror, documentaries, animated movies, comedy, and kids and family movies.
It is currently offering movies such as The Batman, Spiderman No Way Home, Matrix Resurrections, Raazi, The Harry Potter Series, Drushyam 2, and Shrek among others.
The service will also offer the users early access to some of the premium movies before making it widely available on its Prime Video service.
After launching its video streaming service in India in 2016, Amazon has been expanding its offerings catering to a variety of business models.
“We are super excited about the launch,” Gaurav Gandhi, head of Amazon Prime Video India said at an event, adding that the service would widen customers’ reach and choice. It enables them to pay per movie, instead of a flat monthly fee.
This move comes five years after the US tech giant launched its streaming service in India, and the company said it is planning to more than double its investment in Prime Video over the next five years, but did not mention any figures.
