Post #1: Get to know us!
Apps and Girls, founded by Carolyne Ekyarisiima, develops coding camps, mentorship, and entrepreneurship opportunities to young girls in Dar es Salaam. Carolyne believes that bridging the gender tech gap is essential to creating economic and gender equality in the developing world and beyond, and that when equipped with the right tools and support, girls have the power to change the world.
Apps and Girls is one of five social enterprises selected to partake in the University of New Hampshire’s 2017–2018 Social Sector Franchising Accelerator and Living Case Study program. This program matches potential and developing Social Sector Franchises with experts from the commercial franchising world to provide 6 months of intensive mentoring and support as these organizations scale. Carolyne, the “protege”, is paired with Lori Kiser-Block, the “mentor” (see all protege and mentor bios here!), and here at UNH, we (meet Gina Occhipinti, Apps and Girls’ Student Research Fellow, and the rest of the team at UNH here!) get to facilitate their monthly check-in calls and follow along.
While this process will culminate to a full-length, published case study, we thought you’d like to follow along with our monthly blog, which will keep you updated on what Carolyne and Lori discuss, and give you up to the minute info about Apps and Girls’ exciting adventures!
