Daily Meditations — A Year of Japanese Bands (Queen Bee)

A different band daily. Sometimes famous. Usually not.

I’m not often going to write about bands that are well-known in Japan. Major label or arena filling bands have plenty of articles written about them, many interviews with members, and scores of fans writing blog posts. There is nothing I can really add to the subject matter. (Unless I scored an actual interview, but for general sharing of stuff I liek, not so much.)

That all out of the way, I really like the band Queen Bee. Sort of a glam-punk. Early on they leaned a bit more to a disco-pop. Now they are more pop-rock with a deeper foundation. Great apparel! The vocalist and drummer are siblings — and they are from Kobe. Kobe was mentioned in a previous post as a bit of a hotbed of cool band growth.

Queen Bee (Ziyoou-vachi) formed in 2009 and have released several well-received albums. The lead vocalist has an amazing vocal range and can sing from low to high.
