How to pay back to the community as a Pakistani university student
Last month I visited my school and was invited by a teacher to share my experience of getting into a good university with their students.
My name is Aqib and I’m studying at one of the country’s top-ranking universities, as I made it to there, from a small town, my school/college teachers consider it an achievement.
I was led to the same class where I used to be, few years back, but now as an instructor.
Problem I adressed:
Keeping in mind all the struggles I faced, being a class topper in an under privileged area, I started off with some interactive questions.
I was surprised to see the lack of awareness in 10th grade students, about further career options.
Most of them only had the mindset of so called “scope” of medical fields and hence they wanted to pursue biology subjects only, ignoring all other options.
Lecture starts
I first tested the curiosity level of students, and after getting a positive response, I was motivated to speak out my heart, I shared all my struggles of getting into the university and aiming for other high-level universities, where I couldn’t succeed, and the reasons/mistakes of being so.
I was happy to get a welcoming response from students, which was proved by the pin drop silence as I talked.
As I ended my talk, the class burst into a warm applause.
The calm, I felt after I was done with this, made me realize that one of my passions also lies in the education field, as I assumed a long time ago.
I promised students of further followup sessions and individual counselling, this is what I think I can do the most for my people out there.
