Exercises to treat Bell’s Palsy

Bell’s palsy is a type of facial paralysis, causing unexpected weakness in the muscles on one side of the face. By and large, the weakness is brief and fundamentally improves in the weeks. The weakness makes half of the face seem to hang. Smiles are one-sided , and the eye on the impacted side opposes shutting.

Causes of Bell’s Palsy

The main cause of Bell’s Palsy is still unknown. It can occur at any age. Physicians say that it occurs due to the inflammation of nerve controlling one side of the face which could be due to the viral infection.

People who are at risk

Patients with High blood pressure, Pregnancy, or elderly population,are at high risk of having Bell’s Palsy.

Symptoms of bell’s Palsy

● Sudden occurrence of weakness probably within few hours

● Drooling

● Difficulty in eating, loss of taste

● Drooping of eyelids or not proper closure of your eyes

● Headache, pain around the jaw or behind the ear is common.

● You may feel like someone is stretching one side of your face.

Exercises to treat Bell’s Palsy at home.

Physiotherapy plays an important role in treating Bell’s Palsy. There are a number of medical interventions to treat Bell’s Palsy,which includes corticosteroids, Electrotherapy and Manual Therapy. Taping also helps in reviving facial symmetry.

Exercise in Bell’s Palsy has its own importance. Apart from medication, exercises play an important role in treating Bell’s Palsy, which you can do on your own in the comfort of your own home. So Bell’s palsy can be treated at home if there is no underlying cause of it. Some of the exercises that you can do to improve your face symmetry are as below.

Guidelines for your exercises

● Before you start your exercise make sure you are sitting in front of your mirror.

● Just relax and breathe deeply.

● 10–20 reps/set a day.

Closure of the eyes.

Try to close your eyes tightly and make sure you are doing well. If you cannot do it on your own, you can use your hand to properly guide you to close. It will help you in closing your eyes.

Blow your mouth.

Blow up your mouth. At first you will feel like air is coming out of your mouth from the affected side. And it’s ok. It will take time but you will be able to do it after few days but don’t leave doing exercises as it will help you in regaining your facial symmetry.

Move your eyes upward.

Try to move your eyes upward forcefully. It will take some of your effort to do it but will help to improve your wrinkles on the Forehead, which ultimately improves facial expressions.

Show your teeth.

Show your teeth. It will help to improve your mouth muscles which helps in eating and also will help you in bringing back your beautiful smile.

Make a pout

Try to make a pout. Pout at yourself looking at a mirror. It will also help your mouth muscles ans help in improving your symmetry.

So these were the exercises that can do at your home to improve your face symmetry, expressions, your eating ability, your eyes closure if you do it regularly and religiously.
