The Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Walk of Fame is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Los Angeles. Located along 15 blocks of Hollywood Boulevard and three blocks of Vine Street in Hollywood, the Walk features more than 2,700 five-pointed terrazzo and brass stars embedded in sidewalks.

This iconic landmark is a must-see for anyone who loves movies, television, and celebrity culture! No matter your age or where you are in the world, there is something for everyone at the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The Walk of Fame was first established in 1958, when the Chamber of Commerce worked with the City of Los Angeles to develop a new public art project. The idea behind the project was to create a permanent memorial to famous individuals and their contributions to the arts. The concept was approved by the city and began construction a year later.

Today, the Walk of Fame is an internationally-recognized landmark and a top tourist attraction. An average of two stars are added to the Walk every month by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to its historical value, the Walk of Fame is also an important cultural and artistic resource for the city of Hollywood and surrounding areas. The Chamber sponsors about 24 induction ceremonies each year.

Stars on the Walk are based on each person’s contributions to the entertainment industry. They are engraved into the sidewalks in five categories: music, theatre, film, television, and recording.

Some of the celebrities who have received a star are actors, singers, musicians, and writers. Others are the cast of a specific film or television show.

For example, the cast of the movie The Wizard of Oz received a star to honor their performance. Other celebrities who have received a star include Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse, Pee-Wee Herman, Shrek, and Shrek the Third.

Characters from other films, television shows, and comic books have been given stars as well. These celebrities include the Munchkins (a group of 122 adults and 12 children from the film The Wizard of Oz), one kaiju named Godzilla, and a variety of live-action dogs.

The number of stars awarded on the Walk has been gradually increasing over time, from just over 200 in 1960 to over 2,700 today. Some of the more notable additions to the Walk have included Javier Bardem, Viola Davis, James Franco, and Kevin Spacey.

There are also stars devoted to a specific artist or band, such as Liberace, Pink, and Slash. Other celebrities have been honoured for their contribution to the community through their work in charity and social causes.

It’s not unusual for people to spend hours or even days visiting the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It’s a great way to learn about the history of Los Angeles and to see some of the greatest actors and actresses in the world. There’s also a wide variety of restaurants and shops in the area, so you can stop for a bite to eat while you’re there. You can find more information about the Walk of Fame on its website.
