‘violence’, ‘thuggery’, ‘intimidation’, ‘intimidatory bands’, ‘parroting of slogans’… Wait, are we talking about orcs?
A couple of quick points:
- The students are not just parroting slogans, although they are engaging with the dominant discourses emerging from student struggles from around the globe and applying them adeptly within our local context (i.e. precisely what Benatar and his ilk are not doing, which is the primary argument I make in my reply to him).
- The term armchair revolutionary is exceptionally tedious; surely political human beings can both act AND think? Engaging in semantics and engaging in struggle are not mutually exclusive.
