I’d like to preface my response by saying that I’m probably the least qualified person to be lending advice on this topic, but I have no problem sharing my personal thoughts.

I think an honest apology is best given in a manner that does not expect a response. The purpose of the apology is closure and healing. It’s for you. In my situation, I wrote a short letter to apologize for my selfishness and wish her the best. I asked nothing in return. To this day, I still don’t even know if she read it.

The true power of humility is found in learning the lesson, and growing into a better version of yourself. Love should help us achieve positive growth, even if it goes unrequited.
