Piazza Venezia (Venice Square), Rome, Italy

One plot of Digital Lands is located right in the center of Rome — on the Piazza Venezia. Four major roads meet here: the Via del Corso, Via del Plebiscito, Via di Teatre Marcello and Via dei Fori Imperiali, which leads directly to the Coliseum and the Roman Forum. Most tourist routes start on this beautiful square.

It’s always crowded in here, due to its majestic historical monuments. On the south of the square is the monument devoted to King Victor Emmanuel II, Il Vittoriano, which is also called Altare della Patria (Altar of the Fatherland). It was built in the early part of the twentieth century to commemorate the unification of Italy. Also, one of the oldest basilicas of Rome is located here — the Basilica San Marco.

Piazza Venezia owes its name to marvelous Palazzo Venezzia, the former papal home. It was constructed by Pietro Barbo, who later became Pope Paul II. Then Pope Pius IV transferred it to Venice, and the palace was used as an embassy. Nowadays it houses Museo di Palazzo, a museum of Medieval and Renaissance art with a beautiful collection of decorative arts.

With a population of 2,9 million, Rome hosted nearly 10 million of tourist in the past year.

Piazza Venezia is set at the foot of Capitoline Hill, near the Roman Forum, Colosseum, and Palaces of Emperors on the Palatine Hill. Those are the most popular places in Rome. You can visit all of them with a single ticket — about 6mln of this tickets are sold each year.
