The Digital Land is now divided into plots, any of which will soon have precise coordinates

Arcona’s developers have reached another important milestone for the technical deployment of the Digital Land concept: complete division of the Earth’s surface into plots by our GIS team! The division structure is based on higher mathematics and is implemented by high-level professionals in the field of geoinformatics.

What is so significant about this stage?

When it comes to 3D content placement in particular and ownership of digital assets in general there might be plenty of questions concerning plot shape, positioning and ownership rights. Regarding these points, one of the most important system traits is the absence of ambiguity of plot division to prevent any false claims of ownership.

We strive to make the coordinates of the land plots be fully decentralized public knowledge, rather than data stored in some private databases.

The Arcona Digital Land is now divided into aesthetically pleasing arcona-shaped hexagonal plots. Apart from resembling the Arcona brand symbol, the hexagon is considered to be the most fitting shape for digital plots allowing for minimum possible distortion.

As the Earth is spherical, it’s surface can be easily modeled using the figure called icosahedron consisting of twenty triangles.

Any of these twenty triangles can be divided into smaller triangles until we get the triangles of a proper size, from which the hexagons can be obtained.

The Digital Land plots have an area of one hundred square meters each. This is a good approximation for Earth’s surface as the Earth is not perfectly spherical. This size is approximate as the Earth round shape is notional too. That’s how among millions of hexagons there are twelve pentagons.

Soon, we will publish a detailed document describing the mathematics and algorithms behind the modeling of the Earth’s surface.
