Someone should please start a company that mends socks. There’s a hidden epidemic of sock waste and I personally feel very guilty for my part in it. This said, I don’t feel guilty enough to mend my own socks. I just don’t have that kind of time. Moreover, I just don’t have that kind of patience.
My socks with holes sit in a drawer mingling with my socks that will one day have holes. It’s a process to find two matching hole-free socks. Add up all the time I lose plus my aversion to constantly buying new socks, a fix is worth some money to me.
I only just started learning about the KonMari Method for tidying, but I can tell already that my personal transformation is being sockblocked. How could I throw away items that are 98.5% perfect? I can’t and I’d bet I’m not alone.
This company could be a huge success. I going to spare you my back of the envelope financial analysis of the sock mending business because it’s so obvious that there’s a good living to be made here. I will say that I’d pay at least $2 a pair for a quality fix job. You can multiply that times a lot, a lot, a lot.
Please be a part of the solution. Start this business. Or help someone else, someplace else, start it. Crowdfund it. I’m mostly open about the how. This brilliant and well-thought-out idea is yours for the taking. No strings attached.
