“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom” ~Aristotle

AMAL batch 123

At the beginning, I used to think that I know myself a lot. But after joining AMAL I got to know more about myself and the areas of improvement. AMAL helped me to create better version of myself.

Before joining AMAL Academy as a fellow, I didn’t know much about it. I didn’t even know about AMAL Academy that what is it about, what is their mission and goal and how it will be beneficial for me. My friends who were applying for the fellowship, told me about it and persuaded me to apply for this fellowship. I applied on the last date of online applications and I got selected along with my two friends. They dropped out due to their busy schedules but I didn’t because I got really inspired by the mission and the principles of AMAL Academy since from the orientation session.

  • Amal (Just Start)
  • Khudi (Believe in yourself)
  • Sabr e Jameel (Patience)
  • Ek or ek giyarah (Team work)

Each and every day of fellowship, we practiced every activity based on these principles that created positive change in myself and it helped me to know my strengths and flaws more clear. Although at start, my all circle fellows dropped out and I was left alone and as a circle leader, it was an embarrassed moment for me because I was the circle leader and it was my responsibility. I thought that I don’t have good leadership skills but then I shifted to another circle and proved myself as valuable addition. Whenever our circle leader was busy or not well, she gave me opportunity to handle all the hurdles and I did quite a good job on her behalf.

Circle 04, My proud team

There’s no time limit for getting to know yourself or window of opportunity. You can be at the top of your game to the outside world, but still feel the need to get to know yourself and seek self-improvement. It’s never too late to get to know yourself, because once you do, then you’ll be ready for whatever comes next. When you know yourself, a new road won’t seem scary because you already know whether you’re planning on turning left or right.

Letter to myself

This is the letter I wrote to myself at the start of AMAL journey. The reason of writing this letter was to see the change that would brought out by the AMAL Academy at the end. Here I am the person who is confident enough to speak in front of 35 to 40 people at a time, built strong relationship with my fellows, and yes finally graduated from AMAL Academy successfully with good grade and got title SOULFUL along with valuable feedbacks from Ma’am Zeest, Ma’am Namrah and my fellows that really means a lot to me. I’ll surely apply all these learnings in my future professional life for better progress and growth.

PM (Ma’am Zeest)
PA (Ma’am Namrah)

Self-improvement can be applied to anything from learning a new skill, learning to deal with your anger, or putting yourself in a new situation that scares you. Some people need to change their scenery completely. People are capable of doing (almost) everything that the people they admire are doing. You can’t limit yourself by saying you can’t do a specific thing, because you’re you. It all comes down to mind-set and commitment. Get to know yourself and then set out clear goals.

“Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength; mastering yourself is true power” ~Laozi
