Areev Ingredient Pick
Grandma’s kitchen recipes for your weekly ingredient pick : Turmeric
Turmeric , so common in our Indian kitchens finds age old uses in cooking , ceremonies, rituals and skin care . It is so ancient and so well known that it first found mention in Susruta’s Ayurvedic compendium dating way back to 250 BC ! Known as “haldi” in the north and “manjal” in the south , it has atleast 53 different names in sanskrit that include bhadra (auspicious) , vishagni (killer of poison)and varna datri ( enhancer of complexion).

Turmerone and curcuminoids form the main constituents of turmeric and are powerful healing agents . Apart from being a deterant to ance and helping diminish scars on the face it is believed to delay skin ageing particularly in the form of wrinkles. It is an excellent inflammatory ingredient !
We give you a well known and easy face mask recipe , most commonly used by Indian brides. Follow this mask once weekly for about 1 to 3 months to really see results :
Mix together a table spoon powdered flour , half a teaspoon of turmeric , half a lemon and a tablespoon of yoghurt to achieve a thick consistency . Apply evenly on the face and neck and leave to dry for about 15 minutes . Wash off with circular movements to achieve an exfoliating effect.
Apart from skin rituals turmeric is also used for the treatment of dandruff , dry scalp , soothing burns , treating stretch marks and cracked heels.
