Using Commands: ExtrudeCurves, ExtrudeSurfaces, — Shell — MoveFace, MoveEdge — BooleanDifference, and Split.
We will be generating 3D surfaces from 2D lines.
Firs bring in the image Elevations to determine the height of the building we will be working on.
Run the Pictureframe command and in the Front View bring the image inn and scale to the dimensions given (choose one of the building dimensions to measure) and gray it back.
On the 2D line drawing showing we can create a solid at any height and adjust later to correct dimensions. There are different ways to create wall surfaces. First, we will use the ExtrudeCurves.
Draw a polyline (trace from locked 2D lines) and run PlanarSurface — it will generate the solid (walls) as well. Polyline — PlanarSrf — Solid and select any height. To Note: running the command Cap will also close the open surface if solid is not selected.
Same steps as above, with Polyline trace the outline of the building floor plan —run Plannar Surface and Extrude Surface to Solid.
Rotating the Perspective underneath the solid just created — Now we need to set the thickness of the walls by running the Shell command. Select the Polysurface and key in -.5 or -6” to generate the interior walls.
To measure the thickness of the surfaces, draw a Vertical line and run the-Intersect - command selecting the line and then the solid surface will give 2 points that can be measured.
Another way of measuring the height is by cutting a section of the surfaces. Command -Section- select the lines and surface this will cut the section.
With the Move command move out of the surface area.
Holding down the Shift key, measure by drawing a line in the perpendicular osnap on. The Roof will need to be 12” (1’) thick. The line can be moved -12” or -1’.
We will generate a second surface to run the command BooleanSplit: Select solid and create a surface with the thickness in the -1’ or -12”, the new surface should be larger that the edges of the existing surface.
With the MoveEdge command select the edges of the new surface and move Vertical to -3’.
Once the surface is moved we can run BooleanSplit and delete the surfaces no longer needed.
We will be creating windows to add to the buildings — set a Sublayer under 3D Layer and name it Features, it will be for the Windows and Door.
In the front view create a square measuring 4–5’Hx4–5’W — run PlannarSrf and then ExtrudeSrf to 6” or .5’. (set Solid-No) now select the plannar surface and move it to the center of the window frame — it becomes the window pane. Move to the base of where the window is set to be (see 2D lines for reference) on building.
Select the window and move up Vertically 3’.
Run BooleanDifference and the result will be that the window frame becomes part of the building.
