A Chinese gamer known as “Fat Cat,” real name Liu, tragically took his own life by jumping into the Yangtze River after his girlfriend, Chau, requested a break in their relationship.
Liu’s sister discovered the reason behind the breakup while looking through his phone. The couple had been together for two years and reportedly planned a wedding for May 2024. Reports suggest Liu financially supported Chau throughout their relationship, covering everything from birthday celebrations to rent for her apartment
Some sources claim Liu spent a significant amount, up to 510,000 yuan, on Chau, including phones, overseas trips, and even starting a flower shop for her. This reportedly caused financial strain on Liu, forcing him to adopt a very frugal lifestyle
The situation took a turn for the worse in April 2024 when Chau expressed a desire to end the relationship. This followed a period of coldness and rumors of another man in her life. Heartbroken, Liu made the devastating decision to jump into the river. His body was recovered 12 days later.
Following the tragedy, Chau publicly apologized for his actions and expressed regret for not appreciating Liu more. However, she disputed the reports of the substantial financial support. She did confirm transferring 350,000 yuan to Liu’s family after his death. Additionally, Chau claimed to be suffering from depression as a result of the incident and posted a photo of a psychiatrist’s certificate as proof
