A couple of things struck me as I read this:

Your analogy of two strings in near harmony has similarities to the ‘uncanny valley’, except for the feeling that it’s you that’s not quite right.

As I was reading, snatches of song went through my head to show that FJ is known to others. In particular, Lennon’s line from “Beautiful Boy”: “ Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans” (it’s used to great effect in a scene from “Mr Holland’s Opus”. The main character, a music teacher, mimes this song to his deaf son as a way of connecting.)
