At the some point in your text you said that there is no need to say “Hey, I’m in charge here”, and that’s the point.
I started my career as programmer in 2009 and, since then, I always felt this need to suggest things, point out some improvements, be proactive and all of that. As the time goes by, without asking for it, I was promoted and, since 2013, I am proudly the team leader and business analyst.
So, my point is: I totally agree with you when you said that the key words are observation and actions. If you want to be a leader, act like one.
