The Oculus Go standalone virtual reality headset is reaching the first developers, which means plenty of new information is entering the public realm.

Images of the forthcoming $200 device, which doesn’t require PC tethering or smartphone to provide the power, have been posted to Reddit (via Upload VR) last week.

The key takeaway comes via the packaging. What looks like the retail box proclaims Oculus Go will have “1,000+ apps, games and movies” available at launch.

It shows Netflix, The New York Times, Hulu, Juarssic World, Discovery, Fox Sports VR and Facebook, among others, as you can see below.

The box also points out there’s 32GB storage, which suggests there’ll be multiple versions available at various configurations.

The Oculus Go will sit somewhere between the current Rift headset and the Samsung Gear VR, which is made in partnership with the VR pioneer.

Announced at Oculus Connect last October, it has its own displays and processing power and is “hands-down the easiest way to get into VR,” according to Oculus.

The fast-switch LCD display has a 2560 x 1440 resolution, which includes brand new lenses. There’s also built-in spatial audio, without the need for additional headphones.

The device is scheduled to go on sale to the public in “early 2018” but Facebook is yet to reveal a release date for the headset, which could be very much in demand.
