The Unsexy Answer To Acheiving 10x More (How To Escape Mediocrity)
Tactics and strategies will fall apart if you don’t have this.
Agitation, anger, and frustration will arise if you don’t have this.
Bad habits will groove if you don’t have this.
It’s consistency.
Consistency is the unsexy answer that we run away from.
Consistency is the path to a fulfilling, adventurous, and fun life. It draws the line between pleasure and fulfillment.
Consistency gives you a light bulb moment which builds up your momentum. And by building momentum, you build good habits, which is what gets you results.
For about 6 months, I’d fail to be consistent with my habits.
Since our brains are wired for negativity, I’d feel those disturbing, self-deprecating thoughts that would make me cry. And with endless escape routes out there, I’d choose scrolling as my favorite one.
I minimized friends and family to escape mediocrity without fixing the negative impulses I was fighting alone.
But it’s easy to be consistent when you’re seeing results. I wasn’t getting any muscles. I wasn’t getting any followers.
I didn’t meet my expectations even though I was showing up.
Here’s a mindset shift I’ve had: Results follow time and effort. Are you really working hard? Are you really waiting enough for the reward?
Oops! The negative voice pops out with all the crap it has. Don’t trust it and be logical.
“But this other guy who started before than me but is gaining more followers than me!”
“I’ve stopped playing video games why don’t I seem to make any progress.”
This line of comparison is what puts you off track. These beliefs pop when you’re in a bad mental state. So, it’s important to solve this problem.
In this article, I want to give you a process that allows me to:
- Get into a good mental state to build momentum.
- Cultivate a mindset that sustains my momentum.
Let’s get into the jungle!
Become Mindful of Your Journey
In a world full of distractions, mindfulness is what gives you a competitive edge.
Have you spent a bit time to understand what’s wrong with you? Nope, because you’re mindless.
Now, the essence of this one tool is fading because so many people throwing at you. However, without this, you’d end up exactly like your old friends (filled in this Island of distractions).
“Ahh, but I already meditate bro!”
No, I’m telling you to be mindful about the problems of your life.
That’s the reason why you are inconsistent: You don’t know what problems to solve.
Each problem is an obstacle that’s stopping you from becoming the best version of yourself.
Your decisions are insignificant if they don’t solve a problem. You’d just choose to watch anime.
It’s easy to see a YouTuber with six-packs and say: “Yep, this is what I want!” rather than reflecting on what you need.
Maybe you want to get fit along with making money for building a mosque.
Maybe you want to feel less anxious, overwhelmed and more confident.
If you want to build momentum to escape this rut:
- Observe your thoughts (no distractions)
- Journal your problems (no overthinking)
- Break that down into manageable goals. (no overwhelm)
Leverage Negative Emotions
Your emotions are unlimited energy.
Your thoughts are how you use it. You can use it to build or destroy yourself.
For most of our lives, these emotions were working against us.
That means our thoughts weren’t there to benefit us rather to belittle us.
As a result, we escape these emotions through social media, video games, corn, and blaming others.
You cope instead of fighting the emotion.
Whether it’s procrastination, lack of motivation, or
Therefore, one of the greatest skills of all time is to leverage your emotions.
- Feeling overwhelmed? Journal.
- Feeling trash? Go to the gym.
- Feeling stressed? Get some work done.
Fuel your work with these emotions. You will get more work done than you’d normally do.
This is a skill you’d need to level up.
Control your thoughts to leverage your superpowers. A practical tip is to reframe those emotions:
- Whenever you feel stressed tell yourself: “This will enhance my performance.”
- Whenever you feel overwhelmed tell yourself: “This will give me more clarity.”
Without these negative emotions, there’s no positive emotions. Without darkness, there’s no light. Without the sky, there’s no land.
Does that even make sense? Lol.
You get the point.
Don’t let that get out of your head. Contemplate, reflect, and internalize this one idea. Spend some time thinking about it otherwise you’d miss months of progress.
Lower Your Expectations
We all have got self-improvement wrong.
We live in this fantasy world where we think we’ll wake up as somebody who’s always consistent with all his habits. That’s like getting a noob player in a lobby of pros. You’d get destroyed because your skill level is low.
You are a human.
You will make mistakes.
You will mess up.
You will distract yourself.
You will forget.
Instead of trying to be perfect, try to become 1% better each day.
“But I am a masculine man; I can’t work 1 hour a day.”
Do your words align with your actions?
Nope. Because you aren’t on that level. Plus, if you don’t meet those expectations, you won’t feel lose hope.
Don’t let one setback compound into many. Let one small win compound into many.
Momentum requires you to have small consistent wins.
This is the truth about self-improvement.
This lifts off the burden from your shoulders.
I’m not telling you to slow down in this “race”. Push to your limits but be consistent.
Because so many of us start good habits just to go back to our old routines.
This way we don’t see any progress. No progress = No momentum.
We need a mindset shift. We need to count those small micro wins.
The goal isn’t to not mess up this month. The goal is to mess up less this each month.
Note: I’m no way saying this to encourage bad habits but rather I’m breaking this belief of being perfect.
If you want to be consistent with your habits, implement these actionable steps:
- Do one hour of high-leverage tasks. Figure out the one 80/20 task that will achieve your goal.
- Learn for rest of the day. This isn’t wasting time because you’ll be thinking of your goals.
- Be steadfast. If you fail, get back on track as soon as possible. Life’s going to push towards hardships. You need to learn how to dive in those dangerous waves.
That’s all for this post.
Hope you’d find value out of it!
