Megalodon, meaning “big tooth”, is an extinct species of mackerel shark that lived approximately 23 to 3.6 million years ago, from the Early Miocene to the Pliocene epochs. It was formerly thought to be a member of the family Lamnidae and a close relative of the great white shark. But is it really extinct?
Many scientists believe that Megalodon became extinct because of the The cooling(ICE-AGE)of the planet may have contributed to the extinction of the megalodon in a number of ways. As the adult sharks were dependent on tropical waters, the drop in ocean temperatures likely resulted in a significant loss of habitat. But their were many proofs and images that prove that megalodon is still alive and must be roaming in the depth of our oceans. Megalodon teeth can measure over 180 millimeters (7.1 in) in slant height (diagonal length) and are the largest of any known shark species,[23]: 33 implying it was the largest of all macro predatory sharks. In 1989, a nearly complete set of megalodon teeth was discovered in Saitama, Japan. Another nearly complete associated megalodon dentition was excavated from the Yorktown Formations in the United States, and served as the basis of a jaw reconstruction of megalodon at the National Museum of Natural History (USNM). Based on these discoveries, an artificial dental formula was put together for megalodon in 1996. The shark may have been able to open its mouth to a 75° angle, though a reconstruction at the USNM approximates a 100° angle.
DEEP-SEA CHALLENGE:-
Deepsea Challenger is a 7.3-metre deep-diving submersible designed to reach the bottom of Challenger Deep, the deepest-known point on Earth. On 26 March 2012, Canadian film director James Cameron piloted the craft to accomplish this goal in the second crewed dive reaching the Challenger Deep. the submarine’s speed was 3 knots (5.6 km/h; 3.5 mph), Propulsion:- 12 thrusters. Builder is Acheron Project Pty Ltd. In 1960. In addition to capturing photos and video, Cameron’s equipment also took sediment samples. “We did find 68 new species, most of them bacteria,” he tells Melissa, “but some small invertebrates, as well, that were brought back.” At the spot Cameron visited, the water pressure is more than 16,000 pounds per square inch. When Cameron reached MARIANA TRENCH what he saw and felt was terrifying!. Cameron told that he felt he was being watched by an unknown creature. It tried to pull his submarine away. He said at that that moment of his life he felt his is going to pop out anytime as the pressure at the Mariana trench is so high that if you dive without a powerful submarine, your body will just explode!.
Thank You!
