Dating 101: “What is Dating Anyways?”

Ok, So I have been thinking about Dating. I had a life crisis when I realized that I have not really dated anyone byother people’s standards. I have always had to pay or go dutch. I was told that a woman should never pay and that a man must pay for everything. I have this thought that I don’t mind paying, I just sort of expect a man to offer. I was wondering what “dating” really meant so I decided to look it up.

According to Dictionary.com it means: to go out socially on dates.

On Uslegal.com, dating means: a romantic or intimate social relationship between two individuals that is determined by the facts ineach case, such as the length of the relationship, the type of the relationship, the frequency of interaction between the two individuals involved in the relationship. Dating relationship does not include a casual relationship or ordinary fraternization between two individuals in a business or social context.

The “Merriam-Webster” dictionary says: it is an appointment to meet at a specified time; especially: a social engagement between two persons that often has a romantic character.

When asked the question on faccebook the answers consisted of such explanations as “Getting to know each other” to “Something not exclusive”. Dating is also attributed to words such as “Going Out”, “Seeing Each Other”, “Courting”, Etc…

Anyway you put it, It is generally the early stage of a relationship. Though I am still in a bit of a crisis, I know that it doesn’t really matter if it doesn’t really fit anyone else’s definition as long as it fits mine. What is your definition of dating?
