The position of the American Dietetic Association says that appropriately planned vegan diets , including total vegan diets , are healthful, nutritionally adequate and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. Well-planned vegan diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy , lactation , infancy, childhood and adolescence , and for athletes .
“The results of The China Study indicate that the lower the percentage of animal foods consumed , the greater the health benefits — even if that percentage decreases from 10% to 0 % of calories. So it is reasonable to assume that the optimum percentage of animal products is zero , at least for anyone with a predisposition to degenerative disease. “

A study by Swedish researchers suggests that a gluten-free vegan diet can improve the health of patients with arthritis rheumatoid. Research by a team from the Cancer Center Memorial Sloan- Kettering in New York and the University of California, San Francisco shows that the levels of a key biological marker for prostate tumors fell significantly when patients took a strict vegan diet.
