The Morning Commute

I’m sure it’s tiring,

having to be presentable all day long.

So I understand the silence,

the quiet train rides where people

get frustrated for phone calls or chatting-

the only continuous noise coming from the creaking of the overhead handles.

It is the last moment of peace before

having to be in the keigo mindset-

to wear the mask of the perfect employee,

citizen, and family member.
