An Incredible Ride

Dear Split family,

A few years ago, before the explosion of ridesharing, we had an idea — to move people more efficiently using powerful algorithms that could group people in vehicles together dynamically. We turned that idea into reality in two cities on two continents — Helsinki and Washington, DC.

Over the course of the past few years, with your help, we have transported tens of thousands of passengers, developed deep relationships with our cities, and worked with the best drivers in the industry. We built our business around a set of core values that defined who we are and how we operate. Values like “think sustainable, love your community, be kind, split safely, show your sisu (mettle), and have fun” have been instrumental in everything from how we grew our team, to how we treated our drivers, to where we expanded our service to. We have always seen our success as contingent on three key elements: great customer service, seamless and convenient routing, and affordable prices. We hope our customers and partners agree that we always did our best to deliver on those promises.

As we look to the future of our business, and work to continue innovating in the transportation space, we have some big news to share.

Today, we’re thrilled to announce that Split is being acquired by MOIA, a company of the Volkswagen Group. This is an incredibly exciting day for us, as it represents a road forward for us with a fantastic partner who shares our ambitions to make cities better by providing cutting-edge transportation solutions. The Split team will be working as part of MOIA in the coming years to continue innovating and pushing the envelope on the future of transportation.

We would like to thank all of our passengers and drivers for your trust and support. We truly could not have provided such a revolutionary, first-of-its-kind service without passengers who understood what true sharing is and drivers who could deliver an unparalleled quality of service.

And finally, a thank you to the entire Split team — those who will continue on with MOIA, and those who won’t. It has been an absolute honor to work alongside you. Thank you for putting us in the position to have huge successes, and for pushing us to do more than we believed we could during the tough times. I have learned more than I could ever have imagined from all of you, and I have grown as a person and leader because of you.
