Open-mindedness in communication: why is it important?

It is important to remember: open communication is not only the ability to open up to people yourself, but also to show empathy towards others. How can you develop these communication skills? Follow these steps:

- Show sincerity. Don’t be shy to express your emotions and feelings. An open person attracts people.
- Actively listen to others. People will share with you if they feel you are willing to listen without judgment. During a conversation, give your full attention to the other person.
- Learn empathy. Try to understand the point of view and feelings of others. Other people’s opinions have the same value as yours.
- Stay open to new experiences. We often enter into a dialogue with preconceived notions about a person and what they might tell us. Get rid of prejudices.
- Don’t forget about personal boundaries. Both about your own and those of others. Be tactful.
