With changing technology, people’s expectations of websites have also changed. People need faster loading, interactive websites with which they can engage and communicate. That’s why web design trends change over time to match the visitor’s expectations and deliver the best experience. 2022 is the year where we have seen an insurmountable amount of success in AI (Artificial Intelligence), ML (Machine Learning), AR (Virtual Reality), and VR (Virtual Reality), which has improved the immersive experience.

Web designers want to emulate the same experience in the website using the latest technologies available online. In 2022, I have seen some wonderful designs that broke the internet like parallax scrolling, typography, and rehabilitating the 404, and the 90’s retro designs. and I think in 2023 we will see the following trends, such as advanced animation, 3D rendering visuals, and a lot more:

Animation-based Product Reveals

Yeah, I know what you are thinking 😄.

Animations are a part of web design trends for a long time, it’s nothing new. So what are you talking about?

Yes, you are correct. But now, web designers are thinking on a bigger scale. Suppose the website is about some products (digital/ physical). The animation can show how the products would work in real-time (think of a teaser, hover animations, hyper-movement, and micro-interactions). If it is about services, web designers can show how to get or pick that service. Playful animation can increase a website’s engagement rate even if the visitors are speed browsing. If this web design is done correctly, it can hold people’s attention, which is our end goal here. The more engaged they are, they are highly likely to explore more options you have to offer.

Fully Rendered 3D Visuals

In 2022, we have seen websites that provide an immersive scrolling experience. This is because of the growing interest in AR and VR, which has blossomed into something more, thanks to Meta. Now, we have the access to rendered 3D worlds.

Fully rendered visuals along with the right music (not too loud or tacky) are becoming quite popular because they create a cinematic experience. Users would have to provide permission to play the file before proceeding further. It is quite an imaginative web design trend, so it requires a lot of research and practice. The tricky part is, experts would have to create an experience that seems realistic and futuristic, not caricature and cartoonish. Viewers would have a sense of escapism and take away a feeling they will never forget.

Over Customization of Web Elements

If you follow the tech space, you would know how much experts have stressed the importance of minimalism and proper utilization of white spaces.

Now, we are doing a complete reversal of this policy. Now, a popular web design trend is to customize all the elements, such as foregrounds, typography, and images, and use the color palette to its fullest. The goal is to do this without compromising page engagement and viewer entertainment so that the pages reach new heights.

Parallax Zoom Scrolling

This is another web design trend worth borrowing from 2022, here, the foreground elements move at a high speed compared to the background material. It adds more depth and dynamic to the website, which can increase the page’s aesthetics and innovativeness. It is one of the aspects of the immersive experience and the overstimulation aspects I was talking about earlier.

DIY (Do It Yourself) Aesthetic

Do you remember your scrapbook days? I do, those are golden days. Okay, enough reminiscing, back to work 😍. Handwritten notes, letters, sticky notes, and collages are all part of our childhood.

Web designers are bringing back that feeling to a website. This adds a pinch of imperfection and personalization to the perfect page, which feels more like a human. It embraces simplicity along with advanced technologies.

Reworking The 404

404= dread. Ask any designer, they will say the same. It means viewers cannot find the page after clicking on a link.

Instead, they are getting the message, “Cannot find the link/ page you are looking for.”

What happens then is people leave the website and may never return. This means a higher bounce rate, low engagement, and page views.

Web designers are trying to work around this situation. They are using animations and mini-games to grab and hold the attention of viewers and ask them not to leave the site.

Text Overlapping/ Neo Brutalism

One of the latest web design trends that we need to look out for is text overlapping or neo-brutalism. Many experienced web designers think that this would be the most popular trend we will see. We are not saying to overlap all the images or text, just some key sections, such as the headline, or the banner.

Typographic layouts

I have emphasized the importance of animation, multimedia, images, and videos to use on a website. However, some web designers are in favor of ditching it, and working with large, typographic layouts. This goes well with minimalism and grabbing the viewer’s attention.

As you can see, there are multiple web design trends you can watch out for, parallax zooms, immersive technologies, interactive error pages, and typographic texts can help businesses convey relevant information to visitors without taking too much time. It can also make the page interactive, engaging, and entertaining, and provide an overall positive experience.
