Astrology is the art of predicting or determining the influence of the planets and stars on human affairs.

Astrology and Ayurveda are inseparable from human life in India since time immemorial. Highly advanced knowledge related to Astrology on medicine is preserved in Indian Holy scriptures and transmitted from generation to generation. Role of the Astrology in healthy life and pathogenesis of the disease is well known to Indians.

So now another question arises within us. Is astrology a religion? Is it related only to Indians or Hindu Religion?

While many people follow and work with astrology religiously, that doesn’t make astrology a religion. Astrology lacks the characteristics that define a religion, so it isn’t religious.

It all started around the 4th Century BCE when the Greeks discovered Babylonian astrology. It was treated as a science that allowed them to predict the weather, natural disasters, and other events of importance in day-to-day life. Since then, astrology has spread throughout the world and evolved, but it still involves the ancient art of using calculations based on the arrangements of celestial bodies.

In truth, astrology can work in conjunction with any set of religious or spiritual beliefs or their absence, since it’s a predictive science based on the position of constellations and other celestial bodies that are always present in the heavens. Astrology has its significance in many religions like Taoism, Hinduism, Zoroastrianism, etc. Jesus Christ himself had talked about the importance of astrology when he said in Luke 21:25, “There shall be signs in the sun, moon, and stars.” He had discussed the importance of astrology and how it can be used.

Health care is the maintenance or improvement of health via the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, recovery, or cure of disease, illness, injury, and other physical and mental impairments in people.

What is the relationship between Medicine and Astrology?

According to Vedic astrology, planets and our birth sign are closely related to human chakras and organs. Planets and Horoscope will help identify Chakra energy, physical, mental, emotional strength, and diseases in the human body. Every planet is connected with respective chakras in our astral body. Chakras indicate the qualities of a person through ruling planets. If a planet is weak, the respective chakra associated with that planet will also be weak. This also means that if specific chakra energy is debilitated; health issues related to that chakra are caused. We call this method “Ashtakavarga” in Vedic Astrology.

Hippocrates, the ancient Greek physician once said, “A physician without the knowledge of astrology has no right to call himself a physician.”

Medical Astrology is the branch of Astrology that deals with Health and Longevity issues. According to it, each sign and each planet is related to a particular type of disease. Medical astrology has its roots in Greek astrology, though it fully bloomed in the Middle Ages. Doctors all through the medieval era and Renaissance were master astrologers. In fact, until 1666, it was required for physicians to pass astrological exams to practice medicine.

The human body has a very deep connection with diseases. Diseases are an important part of our lives. We can also say that a person may be affected by a certain type of disease if his planet or zodiac sign becomes weak. However, you don’t need to suffer from all diseases. However, a certain type of disease might harm you.

Initially, the signs were mapped onto the body from the head to the toes, with the first sign of the Zodiac (Aries) at the top and the last sign (Pisces) at the bottom. These astrological-anatomical connections were intended for extremely practical purposes when medical astrology was at its height.

For instance, if a doctor was helping a patient with colitis, they’d connect that condition to Virgo, since that sign rules the intestines. Then they’d look to see what planet was in Virgo at the moment, as that would give them a better idea of the root of the problem. Once they determined the sign and planet, the doctor would be able to prescribe a specific set of medicinal herbs to the patient.

At the same time since you are a Leo (which is believed to rule the heart and spine), that doesn’t mean you’re doomed to be afflicted with back pain for your entire life. More accurately, the parts of the body that your sign rules are simply points of emphasis — not necessarily illness. You could be Leo with a strong back and great cardio. Contemporary medical astrologers aren’t as commonplace as they once were, but the practice hasn’t died out altogether.

What made Astrology lose its significance?

Astrology is not inaccurate. It has been ruined by modern psychology. Astrology’s contemporary flavor has a closer relationship with the social science of psychology than the observational science it used to be based upon. Today, modern psychology has cast astrology as a fantastical way that people of the past project the workings of their minds onto the environment around them. This interpretation leaves far too much wiggle room for astrology to simply sound like affirmations of what people want to hear about themselves and think about the world. Even worse, the nurturing approach psychologists take has polluted modern astrology with watered-down interpretations that seek to protect their clients. Even if an astrological configuration spells trouble, the modern astrologer will describe it as an “opportunity for growth,” reducing the trust factor.

With the feel-good, pop-psychology variety of astrology growing like fungal spores throughout the millennial covens of the internet, both believers and skeptics are cause for concern. For over 16 centuries, we haven’t known what ancient astrologers wanted us to practice. newly accessible ancient astrological methods could produce a revival in the power and credibility of the craft.

Astrology is a practice. It only comes alive through use. If we’re too skeptical to use it, we won’t be able to access whatever the ancients might have been on to. We need to learn the language of the doctors of that time and be a little less dismissive so we can learn a little more from them.

My Personal thought:

Astrology has been rejected by the scientific community as having no explanatory power for describing the universe. Astrology has not demonstrated its effectiveness in controlled studies and has no scientific validity, and is thus regarded as pseudoscience. Human beings are the most complex creatures on Earth created by God/ Science or Nature however we call it, Thanks to our sixth sense. So Healthcare of humans is yet another complex stuff. Hence it needs to be examined from different layers. Astrology gives another perspective to Healthcare. Hence I feel instead of blindly believing only in astrology, It is better to have it as an added tool for healthcare.
