Life

Life is a characteristic that distinguishes physical entities that have biological processes, such as signaling and self-sustaining processes, from those that do not. Life is defined by a set of properties that include the ability to reproduce, maintain homeostasis, respond to stimuli, grow and develop, adapt to changing environments, and carry out metabolism.

While the exact origin of life is not yet fully understood, it is believed to have emerged from non-living matter through a series of chemical reactions that eventually led to the development of the first living cells. From these primitive cells, life has evolved into the diverse array of organisms that exist today, ranging from single-celled organisms to complex multicellular organisms.

Life is found in virtually every habitat on Earth, from the depths of the ocean to the highest mountain peaks. It has also adapted to extreme environments such as hot springs, arctic tundras, and even the vacuum of space. The study of life, known as biology, encompasses a wide range of topics, including genetics, evolution, ecology, physiology, and more.
