Visibility After Kickstarter
Great to hear from Lumos (besides the mention on tech websites about the Apple Watch integration). As a supporter of the KS campaign, I’m proud to wear my Lumos and have had a decent amount of comments during various rides. I’m looking forward to a few upcoming fund-raising type rides where just having the signals show endears other cyclists to consider applications beyond commuting for such a helmet. Stated simply, your efforts in design have reached a bit beyond the intended use.
Monthly (accountably) updates are great. I’d personally love to see those both in email and on your blog/Medium channel. I think being your own spokesmen towards your efforts will continue some of the softer connections made during the KS campaign. You are a larger and more established company now — one can’t expect all of the emotional-driven communications to remain. But, those who invested, those who purchase, are canaries towards what Lumos enables in not just accessories, but also in advocacy (even for those who might not prefer to ride with a helmet). To keep a consistent voice, is to keep a consistent presence.
What you’ve been able to do with the Apple Watch integration is nothing short of smart. Will be looking forward to others following after your model there. At the same time, I hope such “out-of-the-box” thoughts don’t stop happening. Much about cycling’s best happens at the edges. Lumos shouldn’t just stay on the edge, but continue to push it out.
If all of this means simply “thanks for being visible,” then I would say my point is met. I messaged another cycling company recently towards doing the same. It should be the regular to engage; even when one’s business matures to states where engaging in such a high-touch manner is not the way businesses used to be.
Looking forward to your next 🚴🏾♂️
