UDD and Oxfam Speaks Out + Stands Up for Tacloban City

Why are we in Tacloban? To play a gig, yes. But that gig was put up for a reason: we support Oxfam’s program promoting durable resettlement solutions called T.R.I.P (Tacloban Resettlement Integrated Programme) for those who live in the coastal areas of Tacloban, heavily affected by Typhoon Yolanda, and are still working on a stable life from that point. With the help of Oxfam, those Internally displaced people who need to be secure in every avenue possible need the ff: their sustained livelihood, their capacity to join decision-making processes (after all they are the ones directly involved in it), preparedness and education for them for upcoming disasters especially the more vulnerable groups, and to strengthen the communities to speak up about their needs — gender sensitive needs (sensitive sanitation for women and hygeine practices for kids) that are of paramount importance to sustain a healthy and improved life. With the help of the Tacloban local government, they have identified 12,518 families. Families who are still in Bunkhouses, Transitional Resettlement Sites and Permanent Resettlement Sites.

Our friends at Oxfam have done the research part to provide us the details and balance out the necessary from what may be put on hold, and helped seek out funds on our beloved Taclobanon’s behalf. Our part is to help spread the word outside this post. Through this move, Speak Out + Stand Up, We need to ensure that this happens and this gets support from a national level because we want to move forward and prepare for what’s to come — disaster preparedness on a GLOBAL level, which you may find in this blog http://www.oxfamblogs.org/asia/tuktuk/ as well. Interconnectivity of advocacies towards a resilient SEA begins with us.

Kind regards to all, have a beautiful November ahead.
