Canadian MTV (aka MuchMusic) released 12 commercials in 2002, each one the duration of 1/60 of a second. The “Quickies” may not seem like effective advertising, but they have a way of making you intently focused, and slip unnoticed into your subconscious in a way that makes you crave ketchup chips and Tim Horton’s for a week.

Producer and editor Tharanga Ramanayak still makes condensed adverts that squeeze themselves into the tight spaces between programming today (you can check out his work on his website: http://whiteflashpictures.com), but it was his MM Quickie campaign that landed his name in the Guinness Book of World Records for the world’s shortest TV commercial.

Fun Fact: The average duration for a single blink of a human eye is 1/10 to 1/40 of a second.
