DAW ultimate controller, what if it wasn’t hardware?

LPX Voice Commander

Producing music efficiently involves a proper workflow. A workflow customized around your studio setup and the kind of audio work you achieve on a daily basis. During your recording sessions, your midi/audio edits and the mixing phase you want to limit dull/repetitive clicks in order to iterate faster (experiments). Navigation scrolls through the timeline (horizontal axis) through tracks (vertical axis) is also time-consuming and markers can only help to a certain extent. Ultimately you want to automate multiple events under one single keystroke. If you merge two events into one, you are now going twice as fast! At the end of the day, it can really save you a lot of time in the studio. Now, how about 3 events or more? Maybe along these lines:

  1. Select the bass track.
  2. Solo it.
  3. Open each of the currently active plugins.

Sounds cool, isn’t it? One problem remains to be solved: a keystroke is rigidly wired to a function or an interface object, while the name of your tracks, the length of your projects, and placement of your regions, will vary.

Idea: Rather than looking for a track on a controller (I use to put stickers on my mini launchpad), it is just easier to call for it and keep your eyes riveted to the screen. Did you say call? Yes, call a track, call a region name, call a function, call a midi keyswitch, call a list of actions with just a single word to unlock a ballet of events inside Logic Pro X (yes the tool you are about to discover is for the moment limited to Logic). This is the power tool you need to boost your productivity. To top it all of, Voice Commands can be triggered from your smartphone and control Logic from anywhere over the network. You will require no additional hardware, you keep your phone in your pocket and just call the keywords you have customized when needed. To make it simple LPX Voice Commander bridges a customizable version of Siri with Logic Remote and a batch commander app. With a first version to come next year, a beta version has already been made available by Creationauts. The first version will offer some more advanced features and a little surprise. Ok I ’ll give you a hint, it has to do with Machine Learning…yes because you want YOUR virtual assistant to better understand your needs and working habits as you go!
