Poor Health Facilities in India
Health Facilities basically includes the hospital, clinics, nursing homes etc. that can provide the health care to the patients. For every country, it is very essential that it should have good health facilities all over the country whether it’s a village or a city.
Health facilities can further be categorized on the basis of the following:
1. Private Healthcare Facilities
2. Government Healthcare Facilities
Both of the above facilities can be different from one’s perspective. Some people say government facilities are good and some say private facilities are good.
So, in my opinion, both can be described as follows:-
So, let us start with the private facilities first. In private hospitals or nursing homes, we get better facilities than government in case of staff, hygiene, environment, medicines, and treatment. The friendly and polite behavior of doctors and the nurses is one of the reasons for people to trust in the private healthcare facilities.
But in the serious situations like heart attack, brain hemorrhage and in other emergency cases, the private hospitals want to grab as much money as they can from the patient’s family. There was a sad incidence that was happened with my Uncle’s(or Mausaji in India) family. Around two years back my uncle had a serious brain hemorrhage when he was in his office. Then he was taken to the Fortis Hospital in Delhi (which is a very prestigious hospital in the private sector) in an emergency. So my uncle was admitted in the I.C.U and doctors said that there’s blood clot in his brain and due to the old age of my uncle they don’t take the risk of doing the operation and the treatment will be done only through by medicines.
So after that, the treatment was going on only by medicines but my uncle’s health was getting poor day by day. After 3 or 4 days the total amount that my uncle’s family have paid to the hospital was above Rs.10 Lacs above and the same day doctor came and said that only 30–35% of his heart is working and he is in danger now. So they shifted my uncle to the ventilator machine that evening, then after 2 days one of the nurses gave a list of medicines to my uncle’s son and asked him to buy all the medicines from the hospital’s dispensary and when he came back they said your father(i.e my uncle or mausaji) is no more. There will be no reduction in the amount even after the death of my uncle and the final amount that they had taken from my uncle’s family was between 14 to 15 lacs rupees.
Now let’s come to government healthcare facilities. Although some of the prestigious hospitals like AIIMS and Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi are giving good facilities to the patients but other government hospitals, nursing homes and clinics are not as good as far.
It is true that the treatment in the government sector is cheap and this sector has highly qualified MBBS and MD doctors but the facilities are not good for many of the government hospitals and nursing homes. Also, the staff and the doctors are very strict in case of treatment. In many of the government hospitals, doctors don’t want to take care of the patients because according to our Indian Government Rules there will be free treatment in the hospitals for the people who are below the poverty line. So most of the doctors don’t want to do the treatment for free and they also want some money or their fees. That is why nowadays poor people also wanted to go into the private healthcare facilities.
So, at last, we can conclude that both the Government and Private healthcare facilities have their own pros and cons.
