What is healthy?

People seem to be less healthy these days, both physically (obesity, diabetes, heart disease etc.) and mentally (burn-out, depression).
At the same time, we are flooded with health & wellness news, articles, books, courses, products and retreats.
So, it should be easy to become healthy, isn’t it? Why is that (being healthy) not happening then?
I think the problem is threefold:
1. We still don’t know much about how everything functions inside of our bodies, especially at the micro level (genes, cells, bacteria). What is the impact of certain nutrition or exercise or sleep on MY body and brain?
2. Much information has been validated by just one person (or a small group). For example, I might have eaten a certain diet and through that lost 10 kilos in 2 months. So, I write a book about it and hope it will be a bestseller. Then it appears only to work with a small number of people and I don’t know why it doesn’t work for the rest. Or many people say that it is good to eat beans, while others say that you must avoid them.
3. There is a lot of ‘sponsored’ information. For example some wineries pay a person to write an article about the health benefits of red wine. Or I say that I got 200% more energy by using XYZ supplements.
That means that it is important to do some thorough research, before you make a change. Check out the pros and cons of certain approaches, and them make a decision. And then try it for a certain period and evaluate then whether it works.
Ultimately you are responsible for your own health!
