The Presidential debate is for the undecided

What to ask and how to listen to presidential debates if you’re still undecided

My conversations after the March 20, 2016 Presidential debate yield one very specific observation: these debates are not for the decided — much more for the fanatics who’d “kill” for their candidate. If you’ll ask them who won the debate, they’ll sure have their bets won.

But not in the eyes of those who are undecided. So, if you’re still undecided, or probably has already picked one but not yet sure if s/he’s the right one for your vote, here are some of the questions I suggest you ask yourself as you listen to these debates (there will still be one on April 24):

  1. Who makes the most sense? — Some will give ridiculous claims, promises or accusations. But who makes the most sense?
  2. Who has the most reasonable promises? —Election time is promises time. But who makes the most doable, potentially achievable promise? Some candidates will promise the moon and the stars just to get votes. Don’t be fooled.
  3. Who has the capability to do what he promised? — It’s one thing to promise. It’s another thing to be capable of delivering the promise. So as you listen to them, ask: “Who among these candidates can actually do what he says based on his experience?”
  4. And last but certainly not the least, who has the potential of allowing me and my family to live the life that we dreamed of? — This election will radiate not just on the here and now but will potentially benefit — or rob — the future generation. So think about your personal dreams and your dream for your family then listen to what these candidates are saying. Are they considering the future of my family when they deliver their promises and platforms? Who among them can better lead this nation for the next 6 years in such a way that my future will move for the better and not for the worse?

I hope you’ll choose the right candidate. In a democracy, your vote is sacred.
