The world is full of hair salons, spas, beauty shops and nail salons. Women and men, both come to these places to get certain services done like, hair, facials, nails, waxings, lash extensions etc. You can get just about anything done to make you look and feel better. This is an important form of self maintenance; it boosts self esteem and thus helps you be your vibrant self.

Have you heard the famous phrase ‘’’having a bad hair day’’? This is a statement that people have jokingly said many times. This means men or women have woken up and just really struggled with their hair in the morning. Leaving them to feel super uncomfortable and not themselves. Feeling as if you’ve woken up on the wrong side of the bed. You might even feel like your whole day is being thrown off. There has been proven studies that have shown women/men will feel more handsome or beautiful when their hair is looking good. Which is crazy, because you don’t really think that such a small thing can throw off your whole mood and put you in such a funk. In the article ‘’Better hair boosts self-confidence’’ written by Marissa Hickens it states that 77% of women feel off if their hair isn’t looking good. This links us to the overall conclusion that the way you look can deeply impact the way you feel.

Not taking care of yourself can be crucial. People’s confidence can result to be very low. They feel neither pretty nor handsome. They feel just average. In fact in a article it states that only 2% of women feel gorgeous. And 60% of our women feel just ordinary (Emma). No one is just ordinary we all are unique in our own ways, so this statistic is really shocking and sad. This should be improved and changed.

From personal experience I have seen first hand the beautiful transformations that take place in the salon I work in. And have seen how important it is for these clients to come in on regular basis. The salon in where I currently work in is called Post Hair company. We are a salon full of colorists, stylists, estheticians, barbers, masseuses and nail techs. We all contribute to better anyone but who walks into our doors. From my perspective as a receptionist I get to see the importance it is for these women to get their hair done almost every month. I’ve seen women much like our client Inez who comes in every 3 weeks to get a root touch up and a couple highlights every single time. This is even when she has only three hairs on her head. But she will never miss a single appointment. Or Miss Therese who gets a bang trim almost every week. Although it might be silly to some, doing things like this makes a women feel better, for them it’s like drinking water. It’s necessary.

Before and After.. by Ashley Roth

My favorite client of all time came into the salon with very long blonde hair said she wanted to do a big transformation. She said this was going to change a lot. As I would walk by I would see large amounts of hair being cut off. Never did I imagine that she was going to do such a drastic change. When she was all done she had taken off about 10 inches of hair. We were all in shock, but very happy for her. I had then asked why she had did what she did. She went on and said ‘’My husband doesn’t like short hair so I chopped it all off, we’re now getting a divorce’’. This to me gave me in instant chills, she showed him and herself that she didn’t need of his approval. She did this for herself, and it made her feel absolutely beautiful. This is by far one of my favorite experiences here at the salon. It has really taught me to self love and to take care of my physical self. To make myself feel beautiful. And that’s what salons do bring out the best in you.

Although it is important to dress up, do new changes get new haircuts, it also can be a negative thing. For example it can get to your head, and instead of feeling confident you can feel the absolute opposite. Sometimes no matter how much you try to look like the latest model or do your hair every two week etc. You might look good on the outside but do you feel good on the inside? Do you emotionally feel yourself. Although this can be the case, doing things like hair, skin, nails, can really help you build that foundation of self care and love.

In conclusion there are many factors that prove and show how important it is to take care of yourself, although the physical might not be as important, they still say when you look good you feel good. Whether it’s getting your hair done, getting your nails done, or doing a new completely different look. It’s guaranteed to make you feel better.
